Outfit-making pieces to mix and match with your mood

Sharon Reuben is a special member of our MTJ family– she’s married to our founder, Jason. You may remember her from when we got a peek inside her jewelry box. Sharon is also the founder and designer behind Chérie LA, a collection of fine and contemporary jewelry.

Sharon dreamt up the concept of Chérie after taking a break from her job as a physical therapist and visiting Paris. Inspired by the artistic vibe of French culture, she came back to the US and started working in the fashion industry as an in-house stylist at Theory. She then went on to work for Zadig & Voltaire, opening the brand’s Rodeo Drive location.

During her time working as a stylist, she couldn’t find the jewelry she wanted. “I was having difficulty finding quality pieces at a reasonable price,” Sharon told us. She teamed up with Jason and his family’s jewelry business, and launched Chérie in 2020.

Sharon recently launched Chérie’s second contemporary collection, and it’s full of sparkly-chic goodness. Centered around versatility, it features double-sided styles, mix and match elements, mixed metals, and plenty of shine.

Chérie LA is offering an exclusive 20% off code for MTJ readers. Use code MTJ20 at checkout.

We asked Sharon some questions about what makes Chérie jewelry stand out. Ready to meet Chérie LA?

How did you become a jewelry designer?

I started as an in-house Stylist for Theory in Beverly Hills. With the clothes being so simple, I wanted to bring out my clients' individuality and jewelry was the best way. Jason and I were dating and with Jason being in the jewelry industry all his life, I shared the challenges I was having and how I had this idea of bridging the gap between contemporary and fine jewelry. From there, Chérie was born.

What inspired your new collection.

I look for shapes that do not have much representation in the jewelry space. You don't see pieces with triangles, but you do see a lot of dainty pieces with baguettes. I'm all about being your authentic self and want my jewelry to enhance you.

What’s your favorite piece from the new collection and how would you style it?

I have put such thought into all my pieces, but I would say my flippable disc hoops. They have everything I look for in a piece: versatility, quality, and comfort. You can wear them three different ways. I would start by just wearing the huggies, without the discs, for my workout. Then, I would wear the mother-of-pearl side for a lunch meeting and switch to the black diamond side for date night with Jason.

There's a lot of sparkle in your collection, what are your favorite gemstones and why?

Diamonds are my best friends because they are timeless and beautiful. I also love emeralds because of their vibrant, bold color.

What do you love about jewelry?

It’s the easiest way for me to express myself and bring out my individuality.

What is your mixing metals advice?

I was very hesitant to mix metals for a long time. But, the best advice I can give anyone is just go for it. Play with it and see what you like. You’ll figure it out. I started with mixing bracelets, then to rings, and now I've mixed up necklaces and earrings all together! I'm obsessed.

If Emily from Emily in Paris wore one piece from your collection, which should it be and why?

The shields of protection choker all the way! It's bold, unique, and exudes confidence whenever I put it on. Emily has so much going on and this piece would keep her grounded and confident in herself for her everyday adventures.
