Meet the Gemfluencer: Marion Fasel

Founder of the online jewelry magazine The Adventurine, Marion Fasel is a jewelry historian and author. Her latest book, Beautiful Creatures: Jewelry Inspired by the Animal Kingdom, just dropped, and spectacular beasts transformed into sparkling treasures? Thrilling. Marion took the time out of her busy book-release schedule to answer our jewelry fan questions.

First piece of jewelry: A silver charm bracelet from when I was about nine-years-old with charms of the states where we traveled in the US and a four-leaf clover encased in crystal. It meant a lot to me.

Jewelry trend of the moment: The `70s zodiacs from Cartier and Van Cleef that you can barely find because they are so hot.

Favorite jewels from history:  I love the big masterpieces, like Maria Felix’s snake earrings by Cartier and the starfish brooch by Dali, but I also adore the smaller insects made around the turn of the century. There is a leaf weevil by Tiffany and a Stag Beetle from Boucheron that reflect how popular insect collecting was at the time.

Famous jewelry moment: I love the way jewelry provides the clues for Grace Kelly to solve a murder in Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window. I watch that movie at least once a year.

Current designers you’re most excited about: I adore Brent Neale and Loren Nicole; they are both imaginative super talents.

Next jewelry purchase: A vintage snake ring to celebrate Beautiful Creatures.
