Body jewels are back (in a big, bold way)

Early-aughts style isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so it’s only natural that designers are bringing back one of the era’s key jewelry trends. This summer, we’ve seen runways (from Burberry to Blumarine) and celebrity bodies (hello Rihanna) accessorized with versions of body-chains delicate and bold, the better to set off all those low slung jeans and midriff-baring tops currently seeing a Y2K resurgence. But if there’s a different body part you’d rather draw attention to, don’t despair. Everything from belly chains to hand bracelets, clip-on nose rings to toe anklets are newly on trend to help you accentuate your throwback 2000’s ensembles.

Belly Chain

Nicky Shemian founded Naiia to “empower and inspire men and women to feel elevated and bold.” The collection is filled with stackable and layer-friendly pieces in everyday covetable styles (think delicate chains to summer-ready pearl pieces) that include body jewelry like this pearl accented belly chain.

Hand Bracelet

Two words come to mind to describe the French jewelry brand Messika: “contemporary” and “diamonds.” When combined under designer Valérie Messika’s talented eye, they come together to create must-have modern pieces. Her “Move” collection is a favorite among jewelry lovers and celebrities alike (including the current face of the campaign, Kendall Jenner).

Bralette Chain

Cult Gaia may have started out with flower crowns and turbans (followed by their cult favorite “The Ark” bag), but jewelry is a key part of completing the look. The brand’s design philosophy is “creating objets d’art,” and this bralette chain certainly feels like a post-modern statement piece.

Body Chain

The “Blink” body chain is part of New York-based Bliss Lau’s relaunch of her best-selling, three-dimensional body jewelry. Meant to complement curves and dedicated “to the beauty of all bodies and a reminder to embrace your sexuality,” the pieces are an inclusive concept and a jewel of the body jewelry trend.

Nose Ring

The one piece of jewelry you never knew you needed? An haute couture nose ring. Even if you don’t consider your style particularly punk rock, when a faux-piercing is designed by the likes of Gucci’s Alessandro Michele (and similar styles are sported by both Kim Kardashian and daughter North West while front row at fashion week in Paris), you might just be tempted to change your tune.

Toe Anklet

Along with gemstones and talismans, designer Jacquie Aiche is known for unexpected body jewelry. While her golden bra and body chains may be the most recognizable, her toe anklets aren’t to be overlooked. This rose-gold-and-diamond number will take your poolside accessory game to the next level.

Belly Chain

Mother/daughter team Ladan and Tania Shayan are the creators of LA-based brand Shay Jewelry. Their aesthetic combines sophistication and glamor with a dash of laid-back SoCal cool. Sparkly diamonds and stones are key, whether in a bold chain-link necklace or a delicate belly chain, like this rainbow stunner.
