Four Elements: April’s Fancy Diamonds

What's your birthstone? It's kind of like your birthday but in gorgeous gemstone form. It's something to celebrate. The ancient Greeks believed everything was made of four elements: earth, water, air, and fire. We believe every birthstone month deserves (at least) four jewelry wishes. Happy birthstone!

They come in colors everywhere

We’ll always have a special place in our hearts for April’s birthstone, the classic white diamond. But as the dreary grey of winter makes way for spring, we’re craving color—and lots of it. Fancy color diamonds are gaining popularity with a younger generation of jewelry lovers looking for more unique stones in a rainbow’s-worth of hues.

Unlike traditional colorless diamonds, prized for their clarity and lack of color, fancy color diamonds come in vivid shades of red, green, purple, orange, pink, and blue, as well as more muted tones of yellow and brown. Some are rarer (and more expensive) than others, but all are equally stunning and sparkly.

If you’ve always envied the more colorful birthstones of other months, consider your birthday wish granted, April babes!

EARTH

Before becoming a jewelry designer, Lauren Harwell Godfrey attended culinary school. Creating a piece inspired by one of her favorite dining delicacies was only a matter of time. This “Caviar” pendant may be cheeky, but it also has Godfrey’s signature luxe aesthetic, with brown diamonds and a mother-of-pearl spoon.
