John Atencio has designed fine jewelry in Colorado for nearly 50 years.
He began making jewelry when he was a student at Colorado State University in the ‘70s. He wanted to give his girlfriend a ring and started searching for the perfect one—it had to have heart, authenticity, and depth. It had to feel like inspiration and passion, all in one tiny, complete circle representing eternity. It had to be art.
That’s what happens when an artist falls in love—no ring was enough. Without any training in jewelry-making, Atencio snuck into the art studio at school after hours and designed and created the perfect ring out of silver. A compulsion for making jewelry ignited and thousands of designs followed. Oh, and he got the girl.
Each piece of John Atencio jewelry is hand-designed by Atencio. His aesthetic is distinctive—classic yet bold—and his fine jewelry is precious and meant to last. Atencio is committed to sustainably-sourced diamonds. He designs new collections every year, offering engagement and wedding rings, gold, silver, watches, men’s jewelry, and custom jewelry. His designs can be found at his six retail locations throughout Colorado, as well as resellers across the US.

It’s all about love for Atencio.
When he initially made the ring for the love of his life, he was interested in working with metal and “living an artful life.” By the time Atencio graduated from college, he'd packed his VW Bus with handmade, wearable art and was driving up and down the Front Range of Colorado selling it. Each piece of jewelry he makes comes from his roots of love and authenticity. He still loves designing jewelry, especially for other people in love, wanting a symbol that brings their passion together.
Each of Atencio’s Colorado retail stores has a different look and feel. With two stores in Denver, and others in Lone Tree, Broomfield, Fort Collins, and Boulder, each space caters to the local vibe and clientele. But all the jewelry inside the stores are distinctly Atencio. An Atencio store doesn’t carry watches other than Atencio’s branded collection, and you won’t find gift store items. You’ll find fine jewelry in silver, gold, and platinum with Atencio’s signature aesthetic.
