In their own words

“We’re a 123-year-old jewelry store. We provide good service and try to be honest with our customers. I’ve been in the industry for 35 years. My parents and I opened up a jewelry store in Cincinnati, and that’s how it started. I’ve worked for other people in the industry, and I recently purchased the Joe Rosenberg Jewelers from Joe Rosenberg in October. I’m the first non-family member to own the jewelry store in Lexington.”

Jason
How did you know you were going to join the family business?

Jim
I've been in the industry for 35 years. My parents and I opened a jewelry store in Cincinnati, that's how it started. I've worked for other people in the industry and I recently purchased Joe Rosenberg Jewelers in October. I'm the first non-family member to own the jewelry store in Lexington.

Jason
Do you have any plans for the next five, 10 years?

Jim
Yeah, I'm going to try to do higher-end watches. And change up the lineup a little bit, but still operate the same way—good customer service and being honest with the customer.

Jason
How did you meet the Rosenbergs?

Jim
When I came to Lexington 24 years ago, I introduced myself to Joe and we hit it off, been together for 21 years with Joe. It's been a good relationship.

Jason
Tell us about your favorite type of customer.

Jim
My favorite type of customer is probably our repeat customers. It's always nice to see them. I know what they want and what they like. We have a lot of repeat customers, but it's also nice to see new faces.

Jason
Tell us about some exciting proposal experiences that the family has been through?

Jim
There was one where this gentleman picks up Joe from our old store and in the vehicle is the young lady who is about to receive the ring, and Joe has the ring in his pocket. Joe hands the ring to the young gentlemen, and he turns around to her and says, "Would you marry me?" She says "Yes," and turns around and hugs Joe instead of the groom.

Jason
When somebody walks into your store, what does it feel like?

Jim
It's a nice, warm environment. We greet you right away, try to determine what you need, and help you find that. If we can't help you find it at our store, I try to give suggestions on maybe someplace else that might be able to help them.

Jason
Let's talk about the brands you carry. What are some that stand out to you?

Jim
There's several bridal lines that we carry, Venetti is one of them. Nicer wedding bands and engagement rings. Higher-end 18-carat, usually with a platinum head. We have vendors from all over the world. We try to carry a collective collection of jewelry.

Jason
Is there a showroom there that you can sit down in and a private area for your clients?

Jim
I don't have anything yet, but that was something I was thinking about trying to do soon.

Jason
The Rosenbergs have done so much for the community, so many charities. Tell us a few that stand out.

Jim
A couple years ago, Joe and his wife, Ricky, did the GoodGiving Guide, where we had 12 different charities come to the store. Joe and his wife would donate 100% of the sales that day to that charity. We've had Humane Society, The Nest. It was a good turnout and it was really nice.

Jason
Everybody around the Lexington area, why should they trust you?

Jim
Joe Rosenberg Jewelers have been in business for 123 years and I can't mess that up. I just can't let them down.
