Four Elements: Turquoise Talismans

What's your birthstone? It's kind of like your birthday but in gorgeous gemstone form. It's something to celebrate. The ancient Greeks believed everything was made of four elements: earth, water, air, and fire. We believe every birthstone month deserves (at least) four jewelry wishes. Happy birthstone!

Waxing poetic about December’s healing stone

When I was in my early twenties, my parents bought me a yellow gold and turquoise ring while on a family vacation in Grand Cayman. At the time, I was attracted to its waxy, bright blue color made luxe paired with yellow gold. Years later, during my Cosmopolitan-fueled, Sex and the City wannabe life working in New York, I realized that at some point, I'd lost the ring. Sigh.

This loss of a special jewelry item haunts me still. It sparked my silver and turquoise Native American jewelry collection, and I learned that it's a healing and protective stone used in immemorial amulets. Now, I am attracted to the spiritual strength of this blue beauty Earth bountifully provides us—plus, I’m a Sagittarius. Here are four beauties that remind me of the wind blowing through my hair in a Jeep Wrangler driving around the balmy island with my brothers.
