Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)
Usually depicted as a chimerical beast—a goat with the tail of a fish—the constellation Capricornus is one of the faintest of the Zodiac and one of the oldest in terms of mythology. According to Greek mythology, the brave and magical goat, Amalthea, sacrificed itself and its indestructible flesh to create Zeus’s invincible shield. In return, Amalthea earned an immortalized place among the stars. The symbolism of the cornucopia, a horn filled with fruit and foods representing prosperity, is also said to stem from the horns of Amalthea.
Owing to this origin, those born under the sign of Capricorn are known to put others ahead of themselves, even while working tirelessly to achieve their own astronomically high goals.
