House of Diamonds

PHOENIX, AZ

In their own words

“We do everything in-house. No one is making something, marking it up, and then handing it off to us. I wanted to be versatile as far as being able to do everything in this industry, whether it’s repair work, creating a piece from scratch, trade work, wholesaling diamonds, wholesale jewelry. I wanted to be able to do it all.”

-Brent Taubmann

Jason’s Interview with Brent

Jason

Today on Meet the Jewelers we're meeting Brent from House of Diamonds. Can you tell us a little bit about your history and the brand?

Brent

Opened seven years ago in May. We started House of Diamonds to manufacture jewelry. We do CAD design, 3D printing, casting, stone setting, welding, and repair. And mostly specialize in custom jewelry.

Jason
So custom jewelry is your niche?

Brent
That's correct.

Jason
Can you tell us a little about your audience type in the Phoenix area?

Brent
We do everything in-house, there's no middleman. We have excellent quality and the price is excellent.

Jason
How would you say the price compares to a traditional retail jewelry store?

Brent
I would say we’re a lot less money. We’re basically a trade shop. Where a jewelry store would take their sale or custom design and have a trade shop make it, that is us.

Jason
How did you decide to go this route? What was your journey seven years ago?

Brent
Seven years ago, I was at a different company. When I went on my own, I wanted to be very versatile as far as being able to do everything in this industry, whether it's repair work, creating a piece from scratch, trade work, wholesaling diamonds, wholesaling jewelry--I wanted to be able to do it all.

Jason
Can you tell us some of your favorite customer proposal stories?

Brent
There's been some dance--what do they call them? Flash mobs. Those are always fun.

I had one client, he hired a company to help them with the proposal and they were going on vacation during Christmas season. When they got to the hotel, there was this Christmas tree that was all decorated with stuff from their relationship. The proposal happened around that Christmas tree. I thought that was pretty romantic

Jason
Are there any causes or charities that you contribute to?

Brent
We participate in the Global Family Philanthropy, they have an orphanage in Haiti and also displacement homes for older people in Haiti and Arizona. They help out with abused women and children. And the Amanda Hope Foundation, which is to raise money for cancer. I try not to say no to anybody, at least a piece to a silent auction for their charity, whether it's something for cancer or to raise money for the local football team.

Jason
How do you differentiate yourself at House of Diamonds?

Brent
Everything is made here. We're not in a mall where people are walking by and have window shoppers. We're a destination location. When someone finds us, it's either by a person-to-person referral or Google Reviews or Yelp Reviews. When they find that out, they kind of already know about me.

Jason
Is there a piece of jewelry that you liked the most?

Brent
I just finished a Fire Dancer for myself, which is a Dave Matthews logo that set 700 pavé setting-style diamonds in about an ounce of white gold. And I'm making a piece right now for my wife, which is a dream catcher. It's an ensemble. It can be worn as a five-piece big necklace and then can be taken apart and worn as two different style necklaces, a pair of earrings, and a bracelet. Almost done with that piece. Happy wife, happy life—that's the name of the game.

Jason
And when people come into your store, what's the experience?

Brent
My store is set up to feel very comfortable. I'm not a pressure store at all. We like to show the customers how we build everything, which you can find on my website too. I did a video so I can show them our CAD design, 3D printers, how we invest the waxes, cast them, polishing, laser welding, the microscopes for the stone setting, and that's it.

Jason
What else would you like Meet the Jewelers to know about House of Diamonds?

Brent
We come to work seven days a week to try to make everybody happy. More than making money and becoming rich is to make sure that everyone is happy with what we promised we're going to deliver.
